A quick update on
team Bloed en OMO in case anyone thinks we’ve bailed:
Our first full team
session (MTB) takes place at Suikerbosrand on Saturday.
Haarkappie will be taking her brand new mountain bike
(her first – a 47th birthday gift) for its maiden run. Someone talked her into
a 29er so she’s got a major technical advantage on the rest.
The one to watch
though will be Oom Sputnik who has replaced the loose crank on his dikwiel
and has also fitted cleats. We are looking forward to some spectacular
dismounts.
Monday we are
heading for Vaaldam with an assortment of borrowed boats. The plan being to
paddle until Biltong says “kannie meer korporaal” and then we’ll
turn back for home.
Lastly, in response
to Stephen Burnett’s message, I must appeal to the younger teams taking part: Please
don’t follow Bloed en OMO during the race.
We intend to take some
dangerous and challenging short-cuts to compensate for our low ground
speed. In other words, the plan is to use
local minibus taxis, no matter how dilapidated and regardless of whether they
have a vice grip for a steering wheel and cardboard pads in the brakes.
